Makeup Tips

Don’t let eye shadow ruin your foundation - When you are applying your eye shadow, apply extra loose powder under the eyes to catch any eye shadow that falls.  When you are finished use a large makeup brush to dust away the powder.  This will ensure you don’t ruin leave eye shadow streaks on your foundation.

Use brushes for application – If you don’t have a good set of brushes, get some.  Brushes will last for ages and are far superior for makeup application than most other means.  Invest in a couple of different shaped eye makeup brushes, a blusher brush, a powder brush and a lip brush. You will soon not the differences in your overall makeup.

Use the right color foundation – To select the right color foundation, streak the color across your face and down your jaw line.  If it blends in and disappears on your skin then that foundation is the right one for you.

Reduce clumpy mascara – When applying mascara, avoid pumping the wand up and down as this will trap air in the tube and dry your mascara more quickly. Most mascara only lasts for three months so if you are finding that your mascara is clumpy, you may want to consider getting a new one.

Protect your canvas – The better your skin is, the better your makeup will look.  Use a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 – this will reduce sun damage to your skin during the day.  Sun damaged skin is very hard to repair – even botox won’t fix sun damaged skin.

Reduce flakey skin – Tight and flakey skin indicates that it is probably dry and may cause makeup to blend poorly.  Skin needs water not oil, so use a moisturizer with a high water content, and drink plenty of water.

Lips need exfoliating too – If your lips feel dry and flakey, coat them with some petroleum jelly and gently buff the lips with a soft tooth brush

Reduce oily skin – If your skin is oily, avoid harsh products that will strip the skin of oil and create flakiness.  Instead, use gentle cleansers such as Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and use an oil-free moisturizer.
